Mountain Valley Spring Water

We believe we offer the purest, best drinking water you can find in Mountain Valley Spring water.  In addition to being able to purchase by the bottle at the studio, you can order in a variety of sizes for home delivery.  Go to www.mountainvalleyspring.com and click on "delivery."

It makes sense given that the human body is roughly 70% water that you hydrate with the best water available to you.   Every drop of Mountain Valley Spring Water comes from a single spring surrounded by a protected forest in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains near Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Before rising to the surface in the springhouse, the water is naturally filtered through layer after layer of shale, sandstone, and limestone, acquiring healthy amounts of calcium and magnesium but is sodium-free*.  Just as important, the pH is the highest available.  PH affects the body's alkalinity and studies show that cancers do not grow in an alkaline environment.  (Normal human pH is 7.4.  A ph of less than 7 is considered acidic.)

Finally, unlike some imported waters, there's no mineral aftertaste with Mountain Valley Spring Water.  A hydrological report using carbon dating found that this water first fell as rain over Hot Springs about 3,500 years ago.

  INSTRUCTORS

All of our teachers are certified Yoga instructors.

Rachel

Rachel's commitment to yoga has more spiritual roots than physical. A longtime vegan and animal rights activist, she has a genuine desire to help others and has even worked with the Peace Corps in Africa. She's studied various forms of yoga including Ashtanga, Anusara, and Jivamukti with some of the world's most renowned teachers. "I want everyone to experience all the benefits of yoga," says Rachel. "Practice is so much more than getting a six-pack. Yoga clears the mind, relieves stress and leads to inner peace." Don't be fooled by her gentle ways, however, Rachel will have you attempting postures you thought only an experienced yogi could accomplish. She'll encourage you to raise the standard bar on your practice whether it's your first class or five-thousandth.

Kate

Kate has always considered herself a fitness enthusiast. She's been a consistent runner since her teens but a piriformis injury after a half marathon left her hobbling for hot yoga in an effort to heal. That was a few  years and hundreds of classes ago. "My whole life has changed," she says. "I breathe better, am more focused and disciplined, feel less stress and still maintain cardiovascular fitness and strength. That injury was the best thing that ever happened to me!" Kate believes that you are never too old to start practicing yoga and constantly reminds her students that "it's not how far you go, but how you go far." Yoga is not a destination but a journey and, in the studio, Kate is a tour guide.

  Carrie

Carrie Griffin (RYT 200, CYT 200) began practicing hatha yoga in 2004 and, after her first class, felt like she'd come home.  Since that experience, she has studied a variety of styles, primarily Ashtanga-derived systems, such as vinyasa and Jivamukti, as well as the more alignment-oriented schools of Iyengar and Anusara yoga.  From these diverse influences, Carrie's own practice and teaching have evolved into a mindful flow, with a strong emphasis on the breath, alignment, and cultivating compassion for one's self and others.  She is extremely grateful for the guidance of her teachers, Rosie Taylor and Ann Richardson, and has continued her yogic studies with Beryl Bender Birch, Dharma Mittra, Tao Porchon-Lynch, Doug Swenson, and Suzie Hurley.  In the fall of 2007, she began training in the Lotus Palm School of Thai yoga massage, a healing art she's honored to offer.  Carrie has degrees in Biology and English and is currently in the process of applying to osteopathic medical school.

  Rebecca

Originally from Texas, Rebecca is a long-time fitness enthusiast.  She worked her way through college as a personal trainer and aerobics instructor.  Currently, she runs, cycles, rock climbs, hikes, and snow boards --  whew!.  It was her passion for these sports that led her to yoga.  "I knew yoga would improve my balance, flexibility, muscle strength and focus," she says. "But I soon found yoga provides a balance in my life that no other activity has ever offered."  On the basis of that revelation, Rebecca earned her yoga certification in 2006 and has been teaching at the Hot Yoga Studio since.   Her classes are designed at increasing performance in her favorite sports, but whether newly off the couch or a seasoned marathoner, her classes do a body good!

  Catherine Gallagher

Catherine Gallagher (Cat) has been practicing yoga since 2001. With a strong background in gymnastics, dance and Pilates, Cat formed a deep connection to yoga almost instantly. Ashtanga, Jivamukti, Anusara, and Vinyasa were the styles she connected with most. "Like many before me, yoga changed my life," says Cat, "and I feel an overwhelming desire to help others find yoga." In 2004, shortly after completing her training at Atmananda Yoga studio in SoHo, Cat left the big apple and moved to Norfolk where she's been teaching yoga ever since. Cat is a devoted student and teacher and, in the classroom, her passion for the practice is contagious.
